Legalization Procedure

Please follow these steps in order to legalize your document. The documents should be authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Cameroon

Introduction

TLScontact can take in documents to apply for the following:

Legalization of ORIGINAL (not copies) Cameroonian documents issued by the Cameroonian authorities.

Documents should be certified by the Cameroonian Ministry of External Relations and legalized by the Embassy of Belgium in Yaounde in order to be accepted by the authorities in Belgium. The legalization confirms only the authenticity of the signature and the seal of the person who has issued the document.

Apart from Cameroon, applicants from the below countries can also apply for legalization of their documents:

  • Central African Republic;
  • Chad;
  • Equatorial Guinea;
  • Gabon.

These applicants must be bearer of an official photo identity document (eg.: national ID card, valid passport or driver's license).

Please note that the following documents cannot be accepted for legalization:

  • Documents issued by the Belgian authorities in Belgium;
  • Medical documents;
  • Photocopies of original documents issued by Cameroonian authorities;
  • Documents that were NOT issued by Cameroonian authorities, even if these documents have been legalized by the concerned Ministry of External Relations.

Please note that the following documents can be accepted for legalization:

  • The translation of all the documents issued by the Embassy of Belgium in Yaounde in order to be presented to the Cameroonian authorities in Cameroon, can be legalized.

Please follow the steps below in order to submit your documents for legalization.

A birth certificate including a declaration of recognition of a child, a Grosse, or other court judgment, must also be legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and co-considered as a document in its own right when submitted and invoiced to TLScontact.

For the legalization of diplomas, please introduce in your file at the time of submission, a printout of the email from the institution or the screenshot from the school's website of the procedure giving you this instruction.

Preparation of documents

Before the document can be legalized by the Embassy of Belgium in Yaounde, firstly, it needs to be authenticated by the Cameroonian Ministry of External Relations.

  • The authentication by the Cameroonian Ministry must not be older than 3 months. It must be provided in a readable format and contain all necessary information (registration number, date, signature, name and seal of the person who has issued the document);
  • The signature of the authentication of the Cameroonian Ministry has to be known to the Belgian Embassy. In case a legalization should be signed by an official, whose signature has not (yet) been notified to the Belgian Embassy, the document cannot be legalized and applicants need to return to the Ministry to repeat the process;
  • The document must be signed by a public official and drawn up in one of the following languages: French, Dutch, German, English, Spanish, Italian or Portuguese;
  • If the document is drawn up in another language, it must be accompanied by a sworn translation. For more information (available in French or Dutch), click here for French and here for Dutch;

Creation of reference

Documents for legalization need to be submitted at the TLScontact Centre.

Please create your personal user account, fill out the online legalization form and and validate your reference.

Submit your documents

You can submit your documents in person or authorize a representative to submit the documents on your behalf. The representative cannot be a minor.

Please present yourself at the opening hours with your valid reference number.

  • An extensive range of Added Value Services is available to facilitate your legalization submission process;
  • Your documents will be checked according to the requirements of the Embassy of Belgium in Yaounde. The legalization and service fees are paid in the centre. Following completion of these steps, your documents are transferred to the Embassy of Belgium in Yaounde for legalization.

You can track your documents at any time by visiting your personal user account.

Note: Children under 12 years old are not allowed to enter the centre.

Collect your documents

After the Embassy of Belgium in Yaounde has processed your documents, your documents will be returned to our centre. You will be notified by SMS as soon as the documents arrive. Please arrive with your application checklist and the original and a copy of your identity card ready. If you wish to designate a representative to pick up your documents on your behalf, please make sure that they bring the following documents:

  • Your ID copy;
  • Your application checklist;
  • A letter of authorization signed by you;
  • Your representative’s original ID and a copy.

If you have chosen the courier return service during documentation submission, your documents will be sent to you directly at your preferred address.

The legalizations will be done on a A4 document with a QR code as the documents have been digitalized in a central system.
