Legalization Procedure

As from 01st of July 2025 Jordanian and Iraqi documents can be legalized via TLScontact in Amman. Please follow these steps in order to legalize your document. The documents should be authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jordan. Make sure to book your appointment for your visa application before booking your legalization appointment since the validity of the legalized documents is 6 months only.

Preparation of documents

Documents issued in Jordan

Documents issued in Jordan must be authenticated by the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs before they can be legalised by the Embassy of Belgium.

Please follow these steps:

  1. Authenticate your document at the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  2. Translate the document into French, English, or Dutch using a sworn translator.

Important requirements:

  • The authentication must be less than 6 months old.
  • It must be clear and include all required details (date, signature, name, and official stamp).
  • The signature must be recognised by the Belgian Embassy. If not, or if the date is missing, the document cannot be legalised and must be reprocessed at the Ministry.

Additional documents required:

For Jordanian citizens:

  • Original ID (a copy is accepted only if the original has been verified by TLScontact), or
  • A Personal Record Certificate issued by the Civil Status and Passport Department (if the original ID is not available).

For Palestinian citizens:

  • A copy of the Palestinian ID or passport (the original must be verified by TLScontact), or
  • An original birth certificate with a copy of the Palestinian passport (if the original ID/passport is not available).

You must also submit the “Memo for Legalization” with your application (available here).

Documents issued in Iraq

Documents issued in Iraq must be authenticated by the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs before they can be legalised by the Embassy of Belgium.

Please follow these steps:

  1. Authenticate your document at the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  2. Translate the document into French, English, or Dutch using a sworn translator.

Important requirements:

  • The authentication must be less than 6 months old.
  • It must include all required details (date, signature, name, and official stamp).
  • The signature must be recognised by the Belgian Embassy.

Additional documents required:

  • Original Entry 1957 document.
  • ID copy (accepted only if the original has been verified by TLScontact).

You must also submit the “Memo for Legalization” with your application (available here).

Important notes

  • Residence permits are not accepted as proof of identity.
  • Belgian residence permits, passports, or ID cards are not accepted if the nationality is not Belgian.
  • If applying as a group, each applicant must provide their own complete set of documents.

Make an Appointment

Documents for legalization need to be submitted at the TLScontact centre.

Please create your personal user account, fill out the online form and make an appointment to submit your documents at our centre.

Please print out your appointment confirmation letter, as you will need to present this document when you attend your appointment.

Submit your documents

You can submit your documents in person or authorize a representative to submit them on your behalf. The representative cannot be a minor.

Please arrive on time for your appointment with the appointment confirmation letter. If you are late by more than 14 minutes or fail to attend, you will need to make a new appointment.

1. An extensive range of Added Value Services  is available to facilitate your legalization submission process.

2. Your documents will be checked according to the requirements of the Embassy of Belgium in Amman. They should be organized and unstapled before submission.

Please note that only the following documents can be accepted for legalization at TLScontact:

  • Civil status certificates (e.g. birth certificates, marriage certificates)
  • Court judgments
  • Notarial deeds
  • Diplomas/Academic documents

3. The legalization and service fees are paid at the centre. Note that the original document and its translation are counted as two documents, and service fees are non-refundable.

4. After completing these steps, your documents will be transferred to the Embassy of Belgium in Amman for legalization.

5. You can track your documents at any time by visiting your personal user account.

Note: Children under 12 years old are not allowed to enter the centre.

Collect your documents

After the Embassy of Belgium in Amman has processed your documents, they will be returned to our centre. You will be notified by email once they arrive.

Please arrive with your original Legalization checklist, original Memo for Legalization, and a copy of your identity card. If you wish to designate a representative to pick up your documents on your behalf, please ensure they bring the following documents:

  • Copy of your ID
  • Your original application checklist
  • Your original Memo for Legalization
  • Copy of your representative’s ID

The only representative allowed to retrieve your documents is the one listed in the “Memo for Legalization” during the submission or the one presenting the original “Memo for Legalization”.

The legalizations will be done on an A4 document with a QR code, as the documents have been digitized in a central system.
