Preparation of documents
Documents issued in Jordan
Documents issued in Jordan must be authenticated by the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs before they can be legalised by the Embassy of Belgium.
Please follow these steps:
- Authenticate your document at the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- Translate the document into French, English, or Dutch using a sworn translator.
Important requirements:
- The authentication must be less than 6 months old.
- It must be clear and include all required details (date, signature, name, and official stamp).
- The signature must be recognised by the Belgian Embassy. If not, or if the date is missing, the document cannot be legalised and must be reprocessed at the Ministry.
Additional documents required:
For Jordanian citizens:
- Original ID (a copy is accepted only if the original has been verified by TLScontact), or
- A Personal Record Certificate issued by the Civil Status and Passport Department (if the original ID is not available).
For Palestinian citizens:
- A copy of the Palestinian ID or passport (the original must be verified by TLScontact), or
- An original birth certificate with a copy of the Palestinian passport (if the original ID/passport is not available).
You must also submit the “Memo for Legalization” with your application (available here).
Documents issued in Iraq
Documents issued in Iraq must be authenticated by the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs before they can be legalised by the Embassy of Belgium.
Please follow these steps:
- Authenticate your document at the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- Translate the document into French, English, or Dutch using a sworn translator.
Important requirements:
- The authentication must be less than 6 months old.
- It must include all required details (date, signature, name, and official stamp).
- The signature must be recognised by the Belgian Embassy.
Additional documents required:
- Original Entry 1957 document.
- ID copy (accepted only if the original has been verified by TLScontact).
You must also submit the “Memo for Legalization” with your application (available here).
Important notes
- Residence permits are not accepted as proof of identity.
- Belgian residence permits, passports, or ID cards are not accepted if the nationality is not Belgian.
- If applying as a group, each applicant must provide their own complete set of documents.
