Legalization information

Legalization Procedure

Please follow these steps in order to legalize your document. The documents should be authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Iraq

1

1

Preparation of documents

Before the document can be legalized by the Embassy of Belgium in Jordan, it first needs to be authenticated by the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, then translated by a sworn translator.

For more information, please contact the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

  • The authentication by the Iraqi Ministry must not be older than 6 months. It must be provided in a readable format and contain all necessary information (date, signature, name, and seal of the person who has signed the document).
  • The signature of the authentication from the Iraqi Ministry must be known to the Belgian Embassy. If the signature has not yet been notified to the Belgian Embassy or if the date is missing, the document cannot be legalized, and applicants will need to return to the Ministry to repeat the process.
  • All documents in Arabic must be translated into French, English, or Dutch by a sworn translator.

You must submit the “Memo for Legalization” along with your documents, which you can find here.

1. An extensive range of Added Value Services is available to facilitate your legalization submission process.

2. Your documents will be checked according to the requirements of the Embassy of Belgium in Amman. They should be organized and unstapled before submission.

5. After completing these steps, your documents will be transferred to the Embassy of Belgium in Amman for legalization.

Collect your documents

After the Embassy of Belgium in Amman has processed your documents, they will be returned to our centre. You will be notified by email once they arrive.

Please arrive with your original Legalization checklist, original Memo for Legalization, and a copy of your identity card. If you wish to designate a representative to pick up your documents on your behalf, please ensure they bring the following documents:

  • Copy of your ID
  • Your original application checklist
  • Your original Memo for Legalization
  • Copy of your representative’s ID

The only representative allowed to retrieve your documents is the one listed in the “Memo for Legalization” during the submission or the one presenting the original “Memo for Legalization”.

The legalizations will be done on an A4 document with a QR code, as the documents have been digitized in a central system.

The legalized and signed documents can be found by scanning the QR code on this website: https://legalweb.diplomatie.be/search.
